Les tapis persans des premiers siècles reproduisaient déjà les jardins traditionnels, narrant eux-mêmes la construction du monde. Les tapis volants proposent une exploration de la symbolique des paysages parcourus, interrogeant ce qui fonde notre paysage quotidien : ce que l’œil saisit, ce que la mémoire retient et ce qui D’apparence familière, elles s’inspirent des roches côtières — basalte, granit, grès… Leur variété visuelle s’accompagne de leur densité, rendant perceptibles les différences de poids entre elles. En bordure de la départementale 26, entre Brest et Ploudalmézeau, une citerne à eau domine le vallon. Édifiée en 1965, cette construction de béton rappelle l’arrivée tardive de l’eau courante et la modernisation des campagnes. Son allure empruntée aux tourelles médiévales donne tout son sens au terme « château d’eau ». Ces architectures se multiplient au XIXᵉ siècle avec l’essor du chemin de fer et des locomotives à vapeur, grandes consommatrices d’eau. Dans les années 1960, Bernd et Hilla Becher entreprennent de photographier systématiquement ces constructions, révélant la diversité de leurs formes et de leurs techniques. Leurs campagnes, menées en Allemagne, aux États-Unis mais aussi dans le nord-est de la France, mettent en évidence cette variété de silhouettes qui traversent les territoires industriels. La pointe finistérienne témoigne à son tour de cette diversité, à travers des “sculptures anonymes” alliant technique et esthétique singulière. Aujourd’hui, certains disparaissent, remplacés par de nouveaux réseaux d’irrigation, tandis que d’autres se reconvertissent : supports d’antennes relais, habitats insolites ou encore objets d’observation.
